The olive oil museum

A passion with ancient roots

Oil Museum: our drops of History.

There is a scent that tells Umbria better than any words: that of freshly pressed extra virgin olive oil. It is from here that the journey into the Bartolomei Oil Museum begins, one of the most fascinating oil museums in Umbria, immersed in the olive oil tradition and rural history of the area.

Crossing the threshold of the museum, you enter an ancient tale linked to the production of extra virgin olive oil. Period photographs, historical documents, original tools and ancient machinery for processing oil tell the story of the work of the oil mills of the past. Among all, a completely manual 16th century olive press stands out, a symbol of the history of oil in Italy.

Leading the way are the Bartolomei Brothers, producers of Umbrian extra virgin olive oil for generations. Since the end of the nineteenth century, the Bartolomei oil mill has carried on a family oil tradition, handed down from father to son, based on respect for the land, quality and passion for oil.

Room after room, the visitor discovers that oil is not just a food, but a true age-old art. A knowledge that has its roots over 6,000 years ago. The museum recounts all the phases of the extra virgin olive oil supply chain: from the cultivation of olive trees to the olive harvest, from pressing to bottling.

Outside, the view opens onto the hills of Montecchio, in the heart of Umbria, one of the areas most suited to the production of quality extra virgin olive oil. An ideal context for those seeking food and wine experiences in Umbria and rural tourism.

The Oil Museum is spread over several exhibition rooms dedicated to the history of oil, agricultural archaeology, ancient oil mills and traditional tools for processing olives. Each object tells a fundamental part of Umbrian peasant culture.

We have divided the museum into different exhibition rooms where we have collected precious archaeological finds, ancient machinery for processing oil in various historical periods and antiques.

Visiting the Bartolomei Oil Museum means living a cultural and food and wine experience in Umbria, discovering the history of extra virgin olive oil and getting to know up close those who still produce it today with traditional methods.

A story that continues, drop after drop.
